Analysis, part 4 - Front Opening

Unlike the DS9/NEM "captain jacket," which had an established standard for the angle of the front opening (one quilt line, or ¾" - see right), the DS9/NEM jumpsuits, unfortunately, did not, even by Nemesis, and the front openings varied quite a bit over the years.

We're mentioning it whilst discussing the yoke/neckline trim, because, again, while the DS9/NEM "captain jacket" had the established standard of the uppermost trim miter intersecting the centermost visible quilt line (see arrow), the DS9/NEM jumpsuit seemed to have no such standard.

The standard would presumably be in relation to quilt lines and half quilt lines, as every yoke detail was (and we haven't even covered them all yet), and some uniforms (erm, one side, anyway) did seem to conform to this "standard":

Width = half quilt line
DS9, 7x1 "Image in the Sand"
Width = half quilt line
Nemesis
Width = quilt line
VOY, 6x10 "Pathfinder"

Paradoxically, some jumpsuits' front openings appeared to be cut with little or no angle at all; observe how the open edge of these jumpsuits runs parallel, or almost parallel, to the centermost quilt line:

DS9, 6x10 "The Magnificent Ferengi"
DS9, 7x25 "What You Leave Behind"
VOY, 6x10 "Pathfinder"
VOY, 6x24 "Lifeline"

Worf's front opening, in particular, changed multiple times over the years:

Width = 1 1/2 quilt lines
First Contact
Width = half quilt line
DS9, 5x14 "In Purgatory's Shadow"
Width = sliver, 1/4" max?
Nemesis

For whatever it's worth, a sampling of the TNG crew's front openings in Nemesis reveals little regarding a "hero" standard; yoke asymmetry was rampant throughout Deep Space Nine, and, unfortunately, it continued through Nemesis.

Asymmetrical
Asymmetrical
Width = sliver, 1/4" max?
Asymmetrical

However, some characters' front openings were symmetrical, albeit with inconsistent widths:

Width = 3/8"?
Upper miter intersects quilt line
Lower miter on mid-quilt line
Width = 5/8"?
Upper miter = ?
Lower miter intersects quilt line
Width = 5/8"?
Upper miter intersects quilt line
Lower miter almost intersects quilt line

Considering all the evidence and factors involved (the "captain jacket" having a consistent and beautiful standard, the occasional jumpsuit which seemed to conform to the quilt line/mid-quilt line paradigm, and both the asymmetry and inconsistency in most of the jumpsuits throughout the era, including Nemesis), we at Bad Wolf have set three front opening "standard" options, all of which are available on our pattern

1 - Front opening angle = straight/parallel to edge
     Lower trim "miter" intersects quilt line
     Upper trim miter intersects (same) quilt line

2 - Front opening angle = ½ quilt line
     Lower trim "miter" intersects quilt line
     Upper trim miter intersects mid-quilt line

3 - Front opening angle = 1 quilt line
     Lower trim "miter" intersects quilt line
     Upper trim miter intersects quilt line
